The future began in 1898
In the early 1900's combustion engine cars were unreliable, dangerous and dirty.
Electric vehicles could be charged at home and used in an instant, and so became the vehicle of choice. Waverley Electrics were first manufactured by Indiana Bicycle Co, Indianapolis IN.
The car was based on C. E. Woods' American Electric. And Indiana Bicycle Co with Elmer Sperry's patents merged as one of Albert Augustus Pope's many companies in 1899 (the Columbia brand stayed with EVC). In 1907 both the Pope empire, and the previous house of cards, EVC, went belly up. An investment group led by the in-house management made the cars independently till 1916. After 100 years we will restart production of the classic designs but use modern technology. Light weight Lithium Ion batteries will replace lead/acid. Solid state controllers will replace mechanically switch controllers. LED lighting will replace kerosene. And high efficiency brushless motors will replace the brushed DC motors!
